Grelle Forelle is bringing something new and shiny to the Wien nightclub scene: No guestlist, nobody under 21 and strictly no photos - just straight up dancefloor business [Read the Nightclub & Bar Review]
Nightclub & Bar Review
The buzz for Grelle Forelle started in Vienna when the club's quirky logo - the 'htmlfish' <>< started appearing in various places around the city. Soon the buzz was palpable, and by the time the launch night arrived in late 2011 there was a crowd of several hundred hopefuls massed out the front of the club. With a strict no-guestlist, no-photo and no real VIP policy, this is the kind of place that you have to turn up to early to make sure you get in - provided you have the right look, the right attitude, and you're over 21 that is...
Once you do make it inside, there's plenty to like about the newest addition to the Vienna club-scene. You first enter a smallish front room with its own bar and DJ booth, and there are snacks for sale alongside drinks here which is cool as it saves you having to go out when the munchies hit at 4am. The sound in the front room is fairly good, with some punchy dedicated speakers and a bouncy, eclectic mix from the resident DJ's
The real action, mind-you, is in the main room - the whole back section of the club is surprisingly large and crammed with a young and stylish crowd. Gaudy orange couches and a minimal design ethos hold sway here, and you can expect a battle for the toilets (be nice to the old lady collecting coins for entry, she has the patience of a saint...)
Past a huge, rectangular main bar, LED triangles hover above the crowd on the main dancefloor, and the vibe is intense, with Old-school House, Electro, & Tech House on display for the clubbers. There's a nifty little side-area for smoking (which is cool for Vienna where most of the time people smoke where ever they want), and a bunch of couches and a raised section for chilling and people-watching / hanging with your friends.
The vibe at Grelle Forelle really lifts when it gets late - like most European clubs it doesn't really get started until around 2am and goes until the break of dawn (6am). Right from the start they've been bringing in top-name DJ's - both locals and internationals, and they've made quite a splash in a short amount of time, so definitely add it to your 'to-do' list next time you hit Vienna for a spot of midnight-madness.
#Best Clubs In Tip: We had a hell of a time finding this spot from Spittelau station - try heading to Friedensbrucke station and making your way from there.
