Nightclub & Bar Review
Lo-Fi is a newly fitted-out bar and lounge wedged in between 2 larger venues on the edge of Taylor Square and Oxford Street. A Sydney favourite due to its killer position on the corner of Taylor Square, the venue has a rough-at-the-edges design that matches the DIY ethos of the Lo-Fi Collective. The real clincher for the Lo-Fi bar is the large balcony that provides an awesome view of the action that always ensues on the busy intersection of Bourke St. and Taylor Square.
Formerly Middle Bar, Lo-Fi has undergone a 180-degree character change with a takeover by the Lo-Fi Collective, so expect a more independent / artistic vibe, and above the bar on level 2 is a warehouse / gallery space on level 3 that showcases up-and-coming local artists - the kind of melding of the two is actually pretty reminiscent of similar clubs in Europe like Village Underground and Fluc. The drinks at Lo-Fi are solid, and it’s a real pleasure to grab a freshly mixed mojito, find a nice spot on the large balcony on a perfect Sydney summer night and take in the action playing out below.
Overall Lo-Fi is the perfect low-key Sydney club - the crowd is young and fun, unpretentious and lively. The space is well-used, the staff are friendly, the drinks are cold and the view is awesome. The buzz on Oxford Street below also adds to its charm - it's perfect for a wobbly crawl along one of Sydney's most interesting nightlife zones.
