The Florida Room is a slick underground lounge that brings in stylish crowds and quality music - this is the place to go when the South Beach madness gets a bit too much and you're looking for a cool place to chill [Read the Nightclub & Bar Review]

Nightclub & Bar Review

Based right in the thick of the South Beach action, The Florida Room somehow manages to feel like it’s a world away from the Spring Break crowds above by occupying a stylish underground spot at the Delano Hotel.

Well known as a spot for in-the-know out-of-towners and locals who don’t like to get caught up in the fake-tanned madness of the Washington strip, The Florida Room also attracts a host of world-class talent and top-notch live musicians. It’s no surprise then to find out that Lenny Kravitz’s design team was the mastermind behind this speak-easy-inspired oasis, as it has the feeling of a classic blues bar mixed with lots of golden, etched wood, elegant fabric walls and a sleek, modern aesthetic. The highlight of the room would have to be the bulbous crystal chandelier that hangs above the crowd - it billows and shines and really sets off the room, spotlighting a vivid lucite grand piano that just commands attention off to one side.

The Florida Room definitely isn’t the largest club / lounge - the ceilings are low and the main room is intimate, and on a busy night it heats up and you’ll end up dancing whether you like it or not. The DJ booth kind of crowds the entrance, and the tables and seating are lined up around the dancefloor, but the petite space gives it the feeling of an insider’s club and you never know who you’ll end up rubbing shoulders with - a lot of well-known touring musicians like to come down and visit while they’re in town.

Music-wise you can expect to hear anything from House spun by resident DJ’s through to Hip-Hop and Instro sets as well as a whole variety of live-music - it depends on the night really. The crowd is a real mix, and you’ll find everyone from SoBo tarts through to the hipster set and the trendy urbanites - that’s actually pretty cool as it’s not defined by one kind of group.

The music and vibe are the real drawcards here, but the drinks are also very good, with some great (and pricey) cocktails on the menu, perfect for a balmy summer’s night chilling out to some good music with a cool crowd. The Florida Room is open Tuesdays and Thursday through Saturday nights until 4am, so make sure you don’t just rock up here randomly as it’s not open on the other nights. It’s not the easiest spot to get into, so dress well and turn up a bit earlier (usually around 10:30pm is the sweet-spot) to give yourself the best chance of getting in.
