Nightclub & Bar Review
Cameo is yet another Opium Group (Mansion, SET, Louis) venue on the Washington Avenue strip with a solid following and a unique look. Set over 2-levels of a converted movie theatre in a classic building on South Beach, Cameo is famous for its Hip-Hop and Electronic club nights, sexy crowd and for being the biggest Tuesday night party in the city.
The interior maintains some of the original buildings classic Art Deco design, and the action is focused around a big main-room with a pit dancefloor, raised DJ stage with a mirrored-front and glass-walled balconies on the sides that overlook the crowds below. A VIP section sits up on the top level, and the layout is kind of cool, although on some nights the majority of the main dancefloor is off-limits unless you have bottle service. The lighting rig is also cool and they've got some big screens and LED displays that keep it flashy.
Cameo takes over the city with Lapdance Tuesdays, where the whole vibe gets pretty hot and heavy, and famous porn stars occasionally host the night which should give you some idea of what to expect. Digital Fridays do solid Electronic music and bring in some cool DJ’s, while the club gets a little ghetto on Saturdays with the 400 (Hip-Hop and R’n’B). The Lapdance Tuesdays give everybody an excuse to party early in the week so if you’re looking for a joint to hit when the scene is quiet then Cameo is the spot. They've got stripper poles set up in the club as well just in case you get the urge to flaunt it or just sit back and make it rain.
You can also expect a lot of guest appearances and urban celebrities visiting the club, and with the whole Miami vibe, the crowd here is pretty hyped-up and looking to hook-up, so there’s lots of flesh on display and a whole bunch of flirting going on - not the kind of place to chill with your other half if you’re after something romantic. The drinks are reasonably pricey but not unusual for this type of club, and entry is pretty expensive as well, with the cost varying depending on the night and whether they have any special guests coming in.
Overall Cameo has got you covered if all the House music becomes a bit overwhelming, and with the awesome venue and different crowd / vibe it's definitely worth a look, especially if you're up for a massive Tuesday night...
