Nightclub & Bar Review

If you take a dark, futurista entrance off Amstelstraat (right near the core of Amsterdam's club scene) beyond the matrix-esque wallpaper, past zebra and pig statues, through a blinding LED ensemble and towards speakers pumping Tech-House all the way through your insides – then it seems that you have stumbled into the main room of one of Europe’s hottest clubs… Amsterdam’s AIR.

At the forefront of the Dutch scene, AIR draws a diverse crowd from early twenties to the questionably older “shouldn’t-you-be-somewhere-else?” forties. The dark avant-garde décor of AIR is illuminated by the various cool lighting displays they have throughout the place. Layout wise; the back of the dance-floor is levelled upwards, akin to an amphitheatre, which can be a good area to either catch a breath, find some lost friends or marvel at the edgy design of the club's main-room.

Throughout the night the music progresses from a Deep House to a predominately Tech House playlist in the main-room, although at times you may find the DJ getting slightly too trancy and low-energy for the more sober of patrons. However for those who are craving a bass fix – you need look no further then the back-room of AIR, which plays a heavier brand of Electro and Fidget-House.

For a European club the drinks are reasonably priced, although this involves the tedious system of topping up your ‘AIR Card’ at the entrance in order to buy drinks. Even though it's not ideal for a quick intermission beer between dance-floor mayhem, it may for many people help control their nightly spendings. With this process being the only real big downfall of AIR, their friendly bar staff and great atmosphere definitely make up for it.

With a solid, regular crowd, AIR brings in big-name Internationals and locals alike most nights of the week...
